Sabrin is studying her third year of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) at Swinburne University of Technology.
Originally from Eritrea, Sabrin arrived to Australia with her family in 2008 on a humanitarian visa.
From the commencement of her degree, Sabrin has been inspired by the massive infrastructure developments going on in her new home city, Melbourne.
She has now taken the first step in towards a career that will see her contribute to the reshaping of the city, by undertaking an internship with Lendlease on the Level Crossing Removal Project.
Nivine, originally from Lebanon, was forced to leave behind her home, family, friends, and a long, successful career in advertising when she arrived to Australia in 2018 on a humanitarian visa.
In spite of having the language, qualification, experience and CV, she thought necessary to restart her career in Australia, she applied for over 100 jobs without securing an interview.
Engaging with CareerSeekers, Nivine completed our five-day training program, and within four months secured an internship with GHD as a Consultant in the Communications and Community Engagement team. At the conclusion of her internship, Nivine was offered and accepted a contract to continue on in the role.
Raneen had just finished the third year of her Bachelor’s Degree in her home country, Iraq, when her and her family were forced to leave everything behind due to war.
Living under restrictions in a second country, Raneen worked 76 hours a week in unskilled jobs to support her family, but she was proud of the work she was undertaking.
In 2017, Raneen and her family arrived in Sydney on a humanitarian visa. In January 2018, Raneen was finally accepted to complete a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at Western Sydney University.
That year, she secured an internship with Lendlease, and achieved a distinction in every subject. Raneen has gone on to also win the AAS NSW Division Vibrate Prize for Most Outstanding Student in Dynamics in Mechanical Systems, and will return to intern with Lendlease this year.
