Wisam is originally from Iraq, and moved to Jordan with his parents in 2004 after finishing high school. In Jordan, Wisam obtained his Bachelor in Computer Information Systems, secured work in IT and was building his career, until Jordan changed its policies regarding the rights of non-citizens.

Wisam arrived in Australia in 2014 and worked casually in retail until he joined the CareerSeekers program. He interned as an IT Project Officer at the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, and secured a contract role in the team.
